Millennials want to try out new things. In the case of wearing a timepiece, it is a smartwatch or nothing. Although smartwatches are really good because they can do a lot of things, there are some disadvantages like weak battery life and others that dissuade some people from getting one.
Wearing a classic automatic watch or an inexpensive quartz watch is so much better in so many different aspects that it would take smartwatches a few more years to get refined to the level that traditional watches have now achieved today.
In today’s article, I will talk about the different advantages of wearing a watch over a smartphone.
It Can Tell People Who You Are
What if one day, you are in an elevator with different people. One is wearing a Grand Seiko Caliber 9F, another one is wearing an Eberhard Chrono 4 Full Injection Chronograph, and another one is donning a Greubel Forsey GMT Earth.
Seeing those people wearing different timepieces will allow you to form theories about their personalities. After all, there are watches that are only worn by people based on their mood or their overall personality.
The same thing cannot be said from smartphones, though. Not only are smartphones almost the same but no one will be impressed when you are using one.
It Can Be a Great Conversation Piece
People who are wearing a traditional watch is bound to have good taste. Did you know that it can also be a great conversation piece?
For instance, if you go to the hospital and you found a nurse that is wearing a particular G-shock watch, that can be a conversation piece as you can ask her about how she uses her watch.
Another instance is that your friend might have an uncle that collects watches. After meeting up with him, you might know a thing or two about timepieces that you haven’t known before. It truly brings people together; a watch definitely can.
It Can Be a Good Heirloom
Unlike smartphones, watches can be great heirlooms that you can pass on to the next generation. That is because a watch is basically built to last.
With a smartphone, it is bound by the current technology, as well as the iteration of the software it is using. I am pretty sure no one will use an iPhone from 2013 in the current year, right?
You Cannot Easily Lose It
Unless you dangle your smartphone on your beck or wrist, it is impossible for you to lose your watch (unless if you are really that clumsy).
I’ve seen a lot of lost phones over the years but I have never seen anyone lose a watch. That is because a timepiece is comfortably and securely put on your wrist so unless you get robbed, it will never leave your side.
They Are Great Pieces of Art
Have you ever seen a person marveling at the design of a smartphone? I am pretty sure that, if there are any, they are quite rare. That is because smartphones typically look almost exactly the same with some unique details sprinkled here and there.
However, a watch can be a great piece of art and if you have the money to sink in an expensive luxury watch, you will know what I am talking about.
Lastly, there are watches that suit different styles and tastes. Can you say the same thing for smartphones? I don’t think so.
